Work will be resuming on the powerlines on Sundial Island the week of July 8th. This work will involve erecting the new towers, stringing the lines, dismantling the old towers, and building service infrastructure (helicopter pads).
Needless to say, there will again be heavy equipment at the delta. Since this will be the last project to prepare for the removal of the dam and access to the island, it’s expected that people will want to get out to the island for it’s last visits. If you do, please be careful, and pay attention to all safety measures put in place by the construction crews.
A rough schedule follows:
Week of July 14th – mobilization for tower installation
Week of July 21st – erection of one new poweline tower – removal of one existing tower
Week of July 28th – erection of second new poweline tower – removal of second existing tower – construction of helicopter pads – removal of existing footings
Week of August 4th – Completion of Helicopter pads – complete removal of old towers – site cleanup
The dam removal project is expected to begin on or around August 15th, but no schedule has been received as of yet. We will update this site as soon as this is known.
