Equipment for the second phase of the powerline project on Sundial Island is starting. We received notice that a large crane will me moved through the Delta and out to the island on Friday, 7/12 (though I’ve received a report that the crane may already be in place as of Thursday 7/11).
This phase will be completing the task of moving the transmission lines from the old girder towers, to new pole type towers on deep set foundations. This again is in advance of the dam to Sundial Island being removed, which starts in another short month. The eroded banks of the Sandy near where these powelines crossed were threatening the old towers which would have been more difficult to address after the dam comes out.
If you’re visiting the delta in the next few weeks, please be watchful of the construction activities, and heavy equipment.
