As visitors may have noticed, there has been equipment staged at the delta for this summers channel dredging and dam removal activities.
We’ve finally received a rough schedule from the Army Corps of Engineers, even as work has already started.
The anticipated work is scheduled as follows:
-Channel work is happening now. They are working from the mouth of the Sandy River and moving upstream toward the dam.
-Dam removal begins Aug. 15 and is expected to be complete by the week of Aug. 28.
-Seeding and planting around the channel will begin by the end of September and be complete by the end of October.
-The contractor will demobilize beginning early November and the project should be complete no later than Nov. 30.
This will be a difficult period for visits at the Delta. We will be losing easy access to the island, and will have to deal with heavy equipment and torn up areas for the duration of this project. While this is happening, please keep safety in mind, and be respectful of the work crews….
