A Friendly End-of-Year Reminder The “Friends of the Sandy River Delta” is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of volunteers and users of the Delta that are working to keep the Delta usable clean, and safe for all users. Our volunteers manage the dog-waste cans, pick up litter, and work the trails in a ongoing effort to improve the Delta for users. Recently we even began cleaning up the illegal camp
As mentioned in a previous post, we’re embarking on our goal of reclaiming the area between 1000 Acres Road and the Sandy River. As most users of the Delta know this area can be a risky place to hike through due to the ever present transient camps, and the associated accumulation of a tremendous amount of trash. Last week, we started clearing some of the abandoned sites through the area and near the intended
Hi Delta Users, Many, if not most users of the Delta know that there have long been a series of camps along the Sandy river to the West of the 1000 Acres Road. We’re slowly trying to bring some attention to these camps with the hopes that they will be addressed once and for all. As a first step, we have flagged a route through the sandy channel paralleling the river. We intend to go in Saturday morning,
The first of two volunteer tree planting events will occur this coming Saturday, November 9th at 9:00 AM. The planting will be along a stretch of the Confluence trail Northeast of the parking lot. If you’re interested in Volunteering you can contact the Friends of Trees at their website
An update to the previous post. We’ve been informed that even volunteer activities at the Delta are required to cease as a result of the federal budget impasse. As a result, it is more important than ever that Delta users provide their own bags, pick up after their dogs, and yes, pack it off-site. Remember, it is volunteer users that manage the tr
Hi all, As many of you have heard, our friends in Washington DC have managed to shut down the government. Since the Delta is part of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, and is administered by the Forest Service, some services will be on hold until DC is back in business. This will impact the Delta in two ways. We will not get the dog-i-pot bags restocked. There is a small stock on-site, but it is a smal
The contractors working on the dam removal project at the delta have reported that the dam has been breached today. Sundial is now truly an island. The remaining work at the Delta will consist of cleanup and panting conte hold last through the end of October.
As visitors may have noticed, there has been equipment staged at the delta for this summers channel dredging and dam removal activities. We’ve finally received a rough schedule from the Army Corps of Engineers, even as work has already started. The anticipated work is scheduled as follows: -Channel work is happening now. They are working from the mouth of the Sandy River and moving upstream toward the dam. -Da
Delta visitors should be aware that there are parking issues that are beginning to be addressed. Since the Delta is a multi use area, we do get many horse trailers. The parking lot has multiple stalls dedicated to trailer parking. These locations are clearly marked on the pavement as “Trailer Parking Only”, and must be left for that purpose. Additionally, No Parking restrictions have been added along th
