Equipment for the second phase of the powerline project on Sundial Island is starting.  We received notice that a large crane will me moved through the Delta and out to the island on Friday, 7/12 (though I’ve received a report that the crane may already be in place as of Thursday 7/11). This phase will be completing the task of moving the transmission lines from the old girder towers, to new pole type towers on

Work will be resuming on the powerlines on Sundial Island the week of July 8th.  This work will involve erecting the new towers, stringing the lines, dismantling the old towers, and building service infrastructure (helicopter pads). Needless to say, there will again be heavy equipment at the delta.  Since this will be the last project to prepare for the removal of the dam and access to the island, it’s expected

We were briefed on a proposed power plant to be located on the West side of the Sandy River Delta.  The plant is proposed by an investment corporation, and they are in the process of applying for permits.  A public notice period is imminent. We’ll have a small crew out at the Delta this weekend to do some work as well as a booth to share some information regarding the summers dam removal and other things Delta related. We’re planning on pulling some of the barbed wire that still remains along the Ranch Dike trail, and 1000 acres road.  While we’re there, we’ll also have an information booth set up at the intersection of 1000 Acres

There has been a couple of reports lately of dogs becoming ill, possibly after visits to the Delta.  One diagnosed case of Giardia, and another of Elokomin Fluke Fever, or Salmon Fluke. The foundation work for the BPA Tower moving project is apparently complete, and the construction traffic should be gone for the short term at the Delta.  Work is expected to resume sometime in July to install the new towers, and move the transmission lines. With the heavy activity, and the recent rains, the roads are very soft.  The roads should be OK for foot traffic, and cycles, but any vehicles will rut the roads
