The main gate at the Delta will begin to be managed starting the evening of October 10th.  The exit lane will remain open, but is controlled by a tire spike strip to prevent entry.

Open hours for the Delta (a designated day-use area) will now be as follows:

  • October 1 – November 2:  6:00 am – 8:00 pm
  • November 3 – March 8:    6:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • March 9 – May 31:              6:00 am – 8:00 pm
  • June 1 – September 30:     6:00 am – 10:00 pm

For concerns, please feel free to comment here, but more importantly, feel free to contact the Forest Service at the following link, or contact Stan Hinatsu directly at 541-308-1708:

Well, this sucks. I, for one, do not welcome this gate enforcement. I see it as just another action that does little to reduce any of the cited issues and impacts only those users that aren’t the problem to begin with. I use the SRD to run with my dog 2 – 3 times a week year round and need to start close to 5:30 AM to be home in time for family and work. I might be able to re-adjust to a 6AM gate opening but I have little faith at all that they will be able meet that schedule with any regularity. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

Thanks for the comment Patrick. I/we havebeen concerned about evening hours, but your concern regarding morning hours are just as valid. I expect this will be of concern come hunting season as well.

We’ve discussed these issues with the Forest Service, and we at least managed to get the seasonal adjustments. Part of the problem was logistics, and finding the organization to be at the gate on schedule. State Parks has been contracted, so hopefully they will be prompt having the Lewis and Clark Park just South of the freeway.

If you find the gate is not being opened promptly, by all means contact us here, and or notify the Forest Service Directly (I’ve added a link to the above post, but you can visit the site directly at http://www.fs.usda.gov/crgnsa)

I expect you would be OK if you feel safe enough to leave your car parked on Jordan Road if you go early. I believe the Forest Service is anticipating hunters to do just that.
